Jan Willem Scholten works in the political section at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ankara. He covers topics including Turkish domestic politics, human rights, public diplomacy and culture. Prior to this posting, he worked as policy adviser in the Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, as desk officer for Central and Eastern Europe. He was also part of the diplomatic task force dealing with the aftermath of flight MH17. Before joining the Dutch foreign service in 2016, he worked as an adviser on digital security at ECP|Platform for the Information Society, an NGO in the Netherlands, and was a member of the Dutch “National Think Tank”. Jan Willem studied Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) at the University of Oxford and holds a Master’s degree in Advanced International Studies from the Diplomatische Akademie in Vienna.
