Julia Bartmann joined the team of Heinrich Böll Stiftung Derneği in March 2022. Before moving to Istanbul, she was Senior Program Officer in the Middle East & North Africa division at the foundation’s headquarters in Berlin, working on Israel, Palestine, Jordan, North Africa and Iran. Prior to that, she was responsible for projects on Turkey, Greece and European Energy Transition in hbs’s EU & North America division. She studied Political Science in Marburg and Kocaeli (Turkey) and holds a master’s degree in International Politics & International Public Law from the Walther Schücking Institute for International Law and a second master’s degree in Migration & Diversity from Kiel University. Her areas of interest include the international & european human rights system, formal & non-formal ways of political participation, youth empowerment, energy democracy and the geopolitical importance of (energy) resources in the Mediterranean region.
