Karolin Tuncel is pursuing her PhD at the Oxford Department of International Development on the role of non-/religious ideologies in legitimizing gender norms in Turkey. Before starting her PhD, she was a Carlo Schmid Fellow with the UN in Brussels. In this capacity, she worked on issues related to EU foreign and security policy, counterterrorism, and the UN’s Protection of Civilians mandate. Previously, she gained work experience at the Global Public Policy Institute, the German Embassy in Canada, and the administration of the German Bundestag, among others. Supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, Karolin studied Political Science and International Relations in Berlin (B.A.), Cairo, Reims, and Cambridge (MPhil).
