Lukas Schmelter

Lukas Schmelter grew up in the Middle East and South East Asia before returning to Europe for his university studies. He holds degrees from the London School of Economics, the Univeristy of Cambridge (Peterhouse) and Tsinghua University, where he was a Schwarzman Scholar. He completed his PhD in History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He was an Ernest May Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and is a visiting scholar at the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics. He previously worked as a policy advisor and speechwriter at CDU headquarters in Berlin and for Friedrich Merz’s CDU leadership campaign. He currently serves as personal advisor to the Minister for Federal, European and International Affairs and Media, and Head od the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia.
