Metin Esen works as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. Previously, he worked as an assistant expert at the Directorate for EU Affairs. He was the representative of Turkey for Black Sea Basin Cross-border Cooperation Programme. He also assumed responsibility for the coordination of European Union Programmes in which Turkey has participated in 2014-2020 period. With regard to his educational background, Metin studied International Relations at Ege University in Turkey and did his Erasmus at Viadrina European University in Germany. He successfully completed his internships at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Berlin and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Nicosia. Metin also participated in the European Youth Event at the European Parliament in France and represented his country in the International Innovation Week in the Netherlands in 2016. After his graduation, he received diplomacy education from senior Turkish diplomats at the School of Diplomats in Istanbul. He also took part in the trainings on the asylum and migration legislation under the EU Acquis and implementation in the member states given by the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA). His research interests are the Cyprus issue, Turkey-European Union relations, irregular migration, resolution of conflicts and mediation, terrorism, multilateralism and enterprising and humanitarian foreign policy understanding.
