Short biography

Sinan Ekim is a Junior Fellow in the “Eastern Europe and Eurasia” programme at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome, Italy. He is also a PhD candidate at the Department of International History at the London School of Economics (LSE). Previously, he was a Senior Research Assistant at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC and a programme assistant/researcher at the Istanbul Policy Centre in Istanbul, Turkey. At IAI, his research focuses on Turkey’s domestic politics and various aspects of Turkish foreign policy, foremost vis-à-vis Europe and the Middle East. Sinan’s PhD project is on the evolution of Turkish nationalism and national identity between 1950 and 1960, with the rise of Turkey’s first conservative government under Prime Minister Adnan Menderes. Born and raised in Istanbul and Toronto, Canada, Sinan earned his Master’s degree in International History from the LSE (2013-2014) and his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Trinity College at the University of Toronto (2009-2013).
