Zuhal Önal holds a degree in Economics from Middle East Technical University. Currently, Zuhal is the Türkiye Country Representative of ALDA – European Association for Local Democracy in Turkey and a Project Manager in the MEA Department. Her current work focuses on participatory democracy, women’s empowerment, and gender equality. She has gained experience in supporting civic participation and empowering young women through her work at the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and in institutional support for civil society at the European Endowment for Democracy (EED).
Having lived in Poland and Belgium for academic and professional purposes, Zuhal has deepened her engagement with international civil society networks. Outside of her professional work, she uses music and Mandala art to promote inclusion and empower vulnerable groups. She is an amateur musician and certified Mandala Instructor and continues to explore the role of art in personal and community development.
